Gather Inspiration

My Favorites

To start my design process, I selected my favorite magazines and just started ripping pages. This semester I had the opportunity to intern for Chapel Hill and Durham Magazine. I drew a lot of inspiration from their in house design team. Some of my favorite magazines, Real Simple, InStyle, Domino, and Our State, gave me many ideas to consider.

Mood Board

After gathering all of the different page layouts that I liked, I sorted them into subject categories. By doing so, I was able to start crafting a vision for the overall style of my magazine. I quickly realized that I knew exactly what I was looking for. 

Ideas for copy

Because my topic areas featured stories with a great deal of information, I chose to create design plans for text and copy examples. Observing article layout of other publications was definitely helpful for this process.
